Pupil Parliament Lead 'Brew It Fair' Assembly for Fairtrade Fortnight
As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, our Pupil Parliament delivered an engaging and informative assembly all about this year’s Fairtrade theme: “Brew It Fair”, which shines a light on the hidden injustices within the global tea trade.
Using resources from the official Fairtrade Education Campaign, they taught the school about the long journey tea takes from field to cup, and the challenges faced by many tea workers - especially around fair pay, working conditions, and the effects of climate change.
Pupils learned that although tea is the second most consumed drink in the world, many of the people who grow and pick tea still don’t earn a living wage. They also discovered how Fairtrade helps communities by guaranteeing minimum prices, offering the Fairtrade Premium, and supporting important initiatives such as healthcare and education.
All classes have taken part in follow-up activities throughout the fortnight, deepening their understanding of fairness in trade and the power of consumer choices.
As we were reminded during the assembly:
“Every cup of tea is more than just a drink - it’s a vote for fairness, sustainability, and a better future.”
We are proud of our Pupil Parliament for being such strong advocates for justice, and for inspiring others to choose Fairtrade.
